My iPod and how it changed my life

Last year for his birthday in early December, our son bought himself an iPod touch. We did get him something, but he knew we couldn’t afford an iPod. Christmas was three weeks away, we also have his little sister to buy for. Also my husband still hadn’t received his unemployment since August whereas our son was working.

He began to show me all the cool stuff he could do on it – Twitter, Internet, and a ton of cool apps. I wanted one!

I’ve grown bored, been on disability for over two years and my conditions seriously limit my mobility. Even with the powerchair, I tire easily and have to be vigilant on my oxygen supply while out. I had taken up crochet again in the fall, but it seemed to make my hands sore.

By the end of February I had scraped together some money and bought my own iPod touch.

I was amazed at all the cool stuff I could do. I coupon a lot, and discovered I could print grocery coupons straight from the iPod! As they say, there’s an app for that!

Still I was primarily using my Blackberry for social media and my netbook for heavy web-surfing.

My hands continued to deteriorate, the keypad on my phone was killing me and I had to hunt and peck on the netbook because bending my fingers was too painful.

Eventually after testing and specialists I was found to have moderate osteoarthritis in my hands with subluxations. I also have one “popper” joint!

I wear a brace/splint on my right hand to protect my thumb.

Now I wonder where I’d be without my iPod. I post to forums, use social networking, even play games to pass the time. One hour would be my limit on the phone to do these things.

Since I can keep my fingers straight I can use the iPod all day! Oh yeah, it plays music too 😉
